Gem Event Productions Brings Holiday Magic to the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade Opening Night Festivities
Each December, the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade transforms the harbor into one of Southern California’s most beloved holiday traditions, drawing thousands of visitors to the waterfront for a week of festive celebration. For the past ten holiday seasons, Gem Event Productions has proudly produced, coordinated, and managed the highly anticipated Opening Night Festivities for the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade at Marina Park.
Held on Marina Park’s expansive event lawn, the annual community celebration welcomes approximately 4,000 attendees and officially launches the week-long parade festivities. Designed to create an engaging and family-friendly experience for guests of all ages, the event featured food trucks, local artisan vendors, caricature artists, and children’s activities throughout the evening. Guests gathered to take photos in front of the iconic NEWPORT BEACH marquee lights and oversized Step and Repeat before enjoying live entertainment overlooking the harbor.
This year’s Opening Night celebration began with a lively musical performance by MONTAGE, the acclaimed song and dance team from Orange County School of the Arts. Their high-energy performance helped set the tone for the official start of the parade festivities and welcomed guests ahead of the Grand Marshal introduction.
Actor Ted McGinley, known for his roles in Shrinking, Married with Children, and The Love Boat, served as this year’s Grand Marshal and greeted parade attendees from the bow of the Grand Marshal yacht, Angelica.
Each year, Gem Event Productions reimagines the design and layout of the Opening Night Festivities to create a fresh and elevated guest experience. For the 117th celebration, the design palette featured sophisticated tones of emerald green, cranberry, and black, creating a nostalgic yet refined holiday atmosphere throughout the venue. Lounge seating, festive décor, and layered lighting helped transform the waterfront lawn into an elegant holiday gathering space.
In addition to the public celebration, Gem Event Productions also designed and managed a dedicated VIP section for celebrities, dignitaries, sponsors, and community leaders. Following the Grand Marshal announcement, VIP guests attended an intimate private dinner inside Marina Park’s event space overlooking the harbor and parade route.
One of the biggest production challenges this year was accommodating the growing number of attendees while maintaining guest comfort and visibility. To enhance theexperience, additional high-top tables were incorporated into the lounge areas and along the balcony, providing guests with expanded gathering spaces and unobstructed views of the parade route and harbor festivities.
Through thoughtful event planning, crowd management, and immersive holiday design, Gem Event Productions helped deliver an unforgettable Opening Night celebration that honored the longstanding tradition of the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade while continuing to elevate the guest experience year after year.
